Dr. Gelcer is a registered clinical psychologist, currently in Private Practice in Toronto. She is the author of many articles on: Family Therapy; Training and supervision of professionals and students; Gifted Children; Bereavement and Loss. She is also the chief author and conceptualizer of the book 'Milan Family Therapy', which was translated to Japanese.
In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Gelcer presents public and professional lectures and workshops across Canada, in Europe, the Middle East, and Japan.
Dr. Gelcer has often appeared as an expert, when her professional opinions and experience were sought by the press, radio and television, regarding issues of mental health, developmental psychology and various techniques of psychotherapy.
Before opening her Private Practice in 1991, Dr. Gelcer was the Senior psychologist of the Child and Family Studies Centre in the Clarke Institute of Psychiatry, for over 13 years.
During these years, she was also the Founder and Director of the Toronto Family Therapy Training Program, the Gifted Children's Team and directed the Learning Disabilities Clinic.
Professionally, Dr. Gelcer was an active member of the Accreditation Council in the Ontario Psychological Association and the President of the Clinical Section. She also taught at the University of Toronto's Department of Psychiatry; O.I.S.E, Department of Applied Psychology; and York University, Department Of Psychology.
